So you might be sitting there thinking, so what exactly IS a Branding Photo Shoot? Well, no need to burden your brain with that anymore, let me give you the complete low-down!
Essentially a branding photo shoot is designed to capture personal or business branding images which represent a client’s true authentic self and create connection and brand trust with their ideal client. Each of the shoots I do is different from the next and a lot of time and energy is put into planning the perfect branding photo shoot for my clients.
You see, I love helping my clients tell their stories and build a brand personality through authentic images. BUT… I also totally understand the nerves involved in being the centre-of-attention in a photo shoot and how so many of us think we “look too fake” in photos.
‘I want your client journey with me to take you from “Oh-Shit (I really don’t want to do this)” to “Hell-Yes! (I am so freakin” excited, can we start now?)’
Read on as I share a recent client’s journey with me and to see exactly what you can expect when you have a branding photo shoot with me.
CASE STUDY - Kristi Lees - Functional Health Practitioner
Kristi was a PT and Yoga Teacher with 15 years in the fitness industry, and had previously engaged with a photographer to have some images taken for her website and social media. Kristi reflects back on her experiences with having a branding photo shoot done:
“While I loved my original images and they were "fun" and reflective of my personality and past experience... they didn't give new potential clients an idea of what I was doing in my Functional Health business (www.kristilees.com) and how I could help them or what working with me looked like. When I started my biz I didn’t realise that I needed a brand photographer and that someone like Enriched By Light would actually help me figure out the details. I thought I had to have what I wanted all planned out myself, so ended up going with a photographer who captured moments and not necessarily my story. As much as I love the pics from the first photoshoot, had I known how much help with the story and brand part Ania would be, I would've considered a branding photo shoot much sooner.”
Client Journey with Enriched By Light
A branding photo shoot requires a fair bit of planning, both from the client and from my end. It’s NOT just about ‘rocking up’ and taking some ‘snaps’. Here’s how I do things at EBL head quarters:
Discovery Call The best way to contact me is to book in a FREE discovery call, during which you will quickly decide if you want to work with me and if I am the right branding photographer for you. I will answer any questions you might have about the process and you can get a vibe for my personality and how I like to do things (which is quite different to others)
Client Branding Questionnaire If you are ready to proceed after chatting to me, then we start the ball rolling. The biggest thing I work on with client’s before their branding photo shoot is establishing who they are as a brand and who exactly is their ideal client. My client branding questionnaire helps me to really understand your biz and you as a person, so that we can work together to capture authentic branding images.
Pre-shoot Strategy Consult I am constantly being told that this is by far the most valuable step in my branding photoshoot client journey. My aim of the pre-shoot strategy consult is two-fold:
Meet me in person - Help to calm the nerves and know who you will be working with, while realising that I am not some weird, creepy, super-serious photographer and that you will probably spend a large portion of your shoot day giggling at my really bad jokes.
Plan your branding photo shoot - As we chat, together we set up outcomes to achieve, nail your branding shoot-list, organise location, sort potential outfits and discuss props for the day.
‘I really enjoyed the pre-shoot consult as it gave me the reassurance and comfort as well as the chance to figure out what I WAS saying currently and what I wanted and needed to say better. It not only gave me extra business insight I hadn't yet nailed but also the ability to not stress so much on shoot day as I knew what to expect.’
Location Review For all outdoor locations choices, I always go and suss out the chosen spot and check that it will definitely work and what might be the best time of the day for that location.
Photo Shoot Plan I compile all the information from the consult to create your branding shoot-list for the day and share this with you to add or make changes as needed. I also will throw in some Pinterest inspo on a personal board for my clients of examples of poses that fit the brief and vibe for the shoot.
‘Ania was so amazingly professional and easy to deal with. I hate having my photo taken at the best of times but her client brief questionnaire and pre-shoot strategy consult have really helped me see the importance of the RIGHT pictures as well as teaching me more about my own brand.’
Extra Details Arrangement With all the information and details now sorted, I let my clients make final arrangements such as booking in a makeup artist (I highly recommend Blacklash Makeup Design who I have worked with closely for several client shoots), finalising their outfits and selecting appropriate props if necessary.
Shoot Day The day starts with some nerves and anxiety but is always filled with lots of fun, laughs and giggles and some silly behind-the-scenes pics amongst the mix. As I work, I use our branding shoot-list as a guide to create authentic brand images. We always throw in extra shots in on the day, but having the plan means things run so much more smoothly and we can have more fun instead!
Client Proofs & Final Images I spent a lot of time investing in a beautiful and client-friendly online gallery & portal system, to enhance my client journey and make image selection a breeze. Once the client favourites are chosen, I do some finer detail retouching and then provide the final images ready for download.
‘I feel my images look natural and look like the me you'd chat to across a table or at a networking event. They show my personality but also my business side - which has been really hard for me to get in touch with in other photos.’
My photography passion lies in personal & business branding photography because I value & understand the importance of setting yourself apart with custom brand photography that connects with your ideal client. I truly believe it’s one of the smartest brand investments you can make for your business, yet so frequently it overlooked until clients are well into their business journey.
As Kristi put it so eloquently,
‘I think that you don't have to be a big biz to need branding photography... and if you're unsure what you need, Ania can help you figure it out!’
